Trekking to the summit craters of Etna is one of the most extraordinary experiences that can be had in Sicily. A scenario with an almost otherworldly aspect and the most diverse that can be imagined from daily life.

The ascent is by cable car up to an altitude of 2500m. From here, after about 3.5h of uphill hiking, you will reach the edge of the central crater where you can observe the Bocca Nuova (3250m ). This crater opened in 1968, and is probably the most impressive one.
Going around the Bocca Nuova you will find yourself on the edge of the Voragine, the heart of the Central Crater. From the top, you can wander 360 ° with your gaze and if the day allows, it is possible to see the Aeolian islands and almost all of northern Sicily.
From the top, you begin the steep but easy ash and slag terrain descent passing through the craters of the 2002 eruption. You will then walk inside a lava tunnel and finally admire the volcanic amphitheater of Valle del Bove, a spectacular 8 km long and 4 km wide caldera. You will then return to the cable car arrival station at an altitude of 2500m.
- Vertical gain: 800m.
- Elevation downhill: 800m.
