Some experiences cannot be scheduled. When Mount Etna erupts, a rare window opens: this sunset trekking runs only during eruptive activity and takes you to a privileged viewpoint facing the volcano in full display.

We hike in the golden light of the late afternoon and reach our vantage point as the sun goes down. Then the real show begins: the heat and glow of the lava lighting up the night, the deep silence of the mountain, and the emotion of witnessing one of nature’s most powerful spectacles, in complete safety, accompanied by volcanological guides.

This is not a simple excursion. It’s an experience that stays with you for life, where every step brings you closer to the beating heart of Europe’s most active volcano.

Let Etna surprise you. The sunset is only the beginning.

The route and the duration are defined according to the exact location of the eruptive activity and to the current legal provisions for volcanic risk mitigation. For further information and prices, contact us.

Is it safe to trek during an eruption?

Yes. Etna’s eruptions are typically effusive and localised, which means lava flows can be observed from a safe distance without danger. Our volcanological guides monitor the activity in real time and select the viewpoint in full compliance with the official provisions for volcanic risk mitigation, updated daily by the authorities. If conditions are not safe, the trek simply does not run: no exceptions, no risks.

Is Etna erupting right now?

Eruptive activity on Etna is frequent but unpredictable: it can last days or weeks, and it can start with little warning. This trek opens exclusively when the volcano is active. Contact us to verify current conditions and availability, or leave your email and we’ll notify you the moment the trek opens. When Etna awakens, the window is short: being on the list means being there.
