Piano Provenzana – AITNE Mobile Office

A two-day trek to admire Etna at its most magical moments: the sunset, the adventurous experience of an overnight stay in a tent in the fascinating night of the volcanic desert of Piano delle Concazze, and the ascent to the summit craters at first light. The tour will take place from July to September.

Program

Meet at Piano Provenzana at 4 p.m., briefing with the guide and equipment check, and ascend by 4×4 to Piano delle Concazze (2800mt). After setting up our base camp for the night we will make a short trek to admire the wild west side of Etna at twilight lights.

After sunset we will return to our base camp to prepare dinner. Overnight in the tent and wake up early in the morning to start the ascent to the Craters Sommitali, from an altitude of 2800mt we will take about 1.5h to reach the edge of the Bocca Nuova at first light, from here we will continue to admire the Central Crater, the Southeast Crater from a safe distance and finally climb to the Northeast Crater from where we could admire a 360° view of almost all Sicily and the Aeolian Islands.

From the top of Northeast we will descend along fun volcanic sand gullies back to our base camp where we will have a nice coffee and breakfast. From here we would have the option to return to Piano Provenzana by 4×4 or continue the descent on foot along steep but fun sand gullies in about 1h of trekking.
