Summit Craters from Etna Sud – 3350m

Trekking to the summit craters of Etna is one of the most extraordinary experiences that can be had in Sicily. A scenario with an almost otherworldly aspect and the most diverse that can be imagined from daily life.

Aitne Office (inside Terrazza dell’Etna Restaurant)
Meeting at 8:30/8:45 AM, departure at 9:00/9:15 AM.
Approximately at 3:30/4:00 PM.
The excursion is forbidden to the cardiac and asthmatic
RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT Due to strong winds from the west we recommended the use of a windproof jacket in Gore-Tex, a pair of glasses to protect your eyes from sudden gusts of wind and of course a pair of high mountain boots (short boots/shoes are unsuitable as they will allow the lavic sand to enter).
Boots and sticks on request
Food and beverages
Cable car and 4×4: 60€

The ascent is carried out by cable car up to an altitude of 2500m and then by 4×4 up to an altitude of 2,850m. From here our trek will begin. After having crossed the lava flows of recent years with still very hot spots, you will continue uphill at times steep to arrive at the edge of the Bocca Nuova crater (3250m), opened in 1968, probably the most impressive crater on Etna

Going around the Bocca Nuova you find yourself on the edge of the Voragine, the heart of the Central Crater. From the top we can have a 360° gaze, and if the weather permits, we can see the Aeolian Islands and almost all of Sicily to the north

From the top we begin the descent along a steep but easy slope of ashes and scoria passing through the craters of the 2002 eruption and from a vantage point over the Valle del Bove, a spectacular volcanic amphitheatre 8km long and 4km wide. From here we continue to the cable car arrival station to return to the starting point.

Length :8km
Positive height difference: 500m
Negative height difference: 800m

The tour may be subject to variations due to bad weather conditions or an increase in volcanic activity.
